Ever dreamed of waking up with more money than when you went to sleep? And not like, .002 cents more in a high yield savings account- a real, honest payout all while you earned on auto pilot while getting your beauty sleep. If you're skeptical, that's okay, I know it sounds like a dream. But I'm willing to bet if you landed here on this article, you're willing to learn. Fortunately, with a little work, you can set up things that really do make money as you slumber.
Here is a list of the best ways to make money while you sleep.
Get Out of Debt
If you are paying interest on debt, you are actively losing money. Those lost dollars due to interest payments add up, so the best way I know to “make money while you sleep.” Is to focus on paying off debt, this way you aren't actively losing money and saving yourself oodles in interest in the long run.
Peer to Peer Lending
Got some cash sitting around? Try lending those dollars via a P2P lending platform. You lend, the lendee pays interest, and you make money with almost zero effort. We like to recommend Lending Club as they're one of the most well-known in the space.
Start an Etsy Store or Ecommerce Site
Create digital or physical products to sell online! Here's a great tutorial for how to sell on Etsy. The principles work whether you decide to go with Etsy or not.
Become a Landlord
Real estate investing is a great way to earn passive income. The only drawback is the time and capital investment involved in getting started. Being a landlord takes work, but if you find the right tenants, it can be a great way to earn money month after money (and yes, while you sleep!)

I know this one might be a bit of a stretch, but hear me out. If you are using credit cards to earn free travel, your money is making you money (in theory… if you do it right.) SO if your money is making you money, you are earning free travel in your sleep (you know, assuming you have your bills set to auto pay in order to accrue the most points.
I know, I said it was a stretch, but it's worth mentioning nonetheless.
Starting a Blog
Read this post for a high-level overview of all the ways you can earn money with a blog. It does require some work and set-up, and it may be awhile before you see your earnings, but if you're committed – blogging can be a GREAT way to earn extra cash around the clock. Here's a course that shows you how to get up and running in 90 days or less.
Sponsored posts, products, writing for pay, affiliates – it's a great time to earn money in the digital economy.
My favorite side hustle is blogging and online writing. If you’re thinking about starting a blog of your own, you’ll need to get self-hosting in order to make money. Click here to get your own self-hosted blog with HostGator for just $2.75 per month using my special link, and then come back here for step-by-step tutorial on installation.
Make Money with Affiliates
You have to start a blog in order to really get “in” on the affiliate marketing game, but this is one of the best ways to “make money while you sleep” because affiliate conversions really happen at all times of the day and night.
For those not in the know – an affiliate is receiving compensation for recommending and sending someone to buy from someone else. The most common affiliate is Amazon. Once you sign up for an account you can sell literally anything by having a link on your blog. Though Amazon is the largest, it’s also one of the lowest paying. Many affiliate programs pay 50% or more which if you’re recommending a $200 course can be $100.
Pay Per Click (ads)
The easiest way to make money is to have ads. Google ads are quick and easy to set up and if done right won’t take away from the site as a whole. The downside about ads is that you need a lot of page views before they really start producing money. It can take months to years before you start seeing any significant income.

Recommending products on Amazon is great but actually selling items on Amazon is even better. The easiest way to do so is through Fulfilled by Amazon (FBA). Basically, you buy things for cheaper then they are selling on Amazon and then send the merchandise to Amazon.
It does take some risk however once you get going it becomes easier and easier and though you can’t negate risk completely, you can lower it.
The two most common techniques for Amazon FBA is retail arbitrage (RA) and online arbitrage (OA).
RA requires you to physically go into stores like CVS, Rite Aid, Walmart, Bed Bath and Beyond and look for merchandise selling for less than on Amazon. Typically in the clearance sections as most regular priced items are the same or more than Amazon.
After you find the products you set up a shipment to go to Amazon and wait for sales to start coming in.
OA takes less moving around as you can do it entirely on your computer at home. However, it can be less profit. It also takes more practice and patience. While in a store you can buy an item and send it to Amazon the same day. Buying something online you have to wait for it to arrive at your house and then ship it to Amazon. Sometimes the whole process takes a month or more.
Create Your Own Digital Products
We are all experts in something that others would love to learn about. Write about it and then sell it as an e-book. You can do this either on Amazon as a Kindle or on your own site. Selling as a Kindle on Amazon may provide more exposure and sales however you will be limited on how high you can price your book. On your site, you set the price, whether it’s $20 or $200.
Just like you can teach people through an e-book you can teach even more with an online course. Courses are much more involved, and often have some sort of group where they get access to you personally. A course will have writing to explain, a video to demonstrate, and a forum where you can ask questions and get help from the creator as well as those who have already been through the course.
You can also create other worksheets and online digital products to sell if you have an online audience!
Possibly the best way to make money while you sleep is to get a dividend payout. If you have done your research and feel confident in the future of a particular stock then you can invest in it. If you want to be more careful than an index fund that pays dividends is better.
